Training

REGULAR GROUP CLASSES
Day: Mondays
Time: 7.00pm until 8.30pm
Location: Karate Academy, Bradley Lane, Newton Abbot (Near ASDA)
What is a typical class like?
First and foremost, our job at USP is to help you develop into a ‘hard target’ with all that is at our disposal – be that verbal diffusion training, awareness and avoidance, fighting skills, escapes or how to carry out first aid on yourself after a knife attack.
However, our students get more than just a self-defence class:
They;
- Make new friends
- Gain confidence
- Improve fitness
- Bust stress
Training with USP will be an enjoyable experience – you will not be forced to do anything you do not want to for physical or emotional reasons.
A typical class starts off with a light warm up to free the joints, then strength exercises are carried out for a few minutes – you do not have to be super fit as these exercises will be adapted to suit you but be challenging enough to help you progress.
We will then carry out around 15 minutes of pad work – punching, kicking, kneeing and elbowing soft pads to improve striking skill, power and release your aggression and stress!

We then move onto self-defence methods, which may be defences against bear hugs, knife point robbery, dealing with multiple attackers and even dog attacks.

The final section of the class is where you put it all together - we may carry out some form of sparring, be it on the ground or standing up, or we might carry out some scenario training or pressure test a technique.

The lessons are designed to follow a simple to complex learning method so that you can build upon what you have already done at your own pace. As such, all classes are suitable for beginners.
